Janu arrives at the festival and is greeted by Dayai and Anii, who reveal they intentionally left him behind to create an opportunity for the "Anii Express"—Anii carrying Janu up the stairs. Janu gives them spending money, after which they head off to look at animals. Tora and Tuli then depart to find Nirima, leaving Janu alone until he is approached by Eruka and Nokana.
The two students engage Janu in a playful competition to see whom he prefers. Janu chooses Eruka, which leads to a tense exchange with Mori, who was also present and critical of the display. Following the group conflict, Janu pulls Eruka aside to speak with her privately. He acknowledges her kindness and attempts to express his appreciation for her without violating his role as a teacher. Overcome by the gesture, Eruka faints, leading Janu to advise Nokana to look after her before he departs to avoid the ensuing awkwardness.
